OBJECTIVES
To stimulate and promote the development, the design and construction of tensile structures in Latin America. To create a forum of discussion encompassing the subject of design, engineering, construction, researcher and commercialization (or marketing) of tensile structures for Research, Professionals, and students with some of the worlds most renowned experts in the field and suppliers with in the industry.

WHAT ARE TENSO STRUCTURES?
Flexible structures, such as cable nets, tensegrity systems and membranes (tension structures) are known for the simplicity of their elements, ease of assembly, minimal material consumption, minimal waste, and energy efficiency. They outshine any other structural system in terms of lightness and capability of covering large spaces. With its seductive forms, unobstructed views and light-filled interiors, tension structures are generally notable architectural manifestations, impregnating the public with a sense of wonder.

Although their spontaneous use goes back to the early ages of mankind, tension structures are eminently modern; their construction requires sophisticated materials, as is the case of synthetic membranes and high resistance steel cables, not to mention sophisticated design theories. With the technological progress witnessed by the last decades, tensile structures are used today in projects of high architectural and urban significance, from transitory to permanent spaces, from single homes

to gigantic stadiums, from an airport roof to the walls of a skyscraper.

THE SYMPOSIUM
The First Latin American Symposium was held at the Architecture Faculty of the Sao Paulo University, Brazil; organized by the Polytechnic School and The Faculty of Architecture and Urban Design. The event brought to Brazil important members of the design Community and had a great acceptance by the Professionals, Students and public in general from all over Latin America.

With this great first effort, nothing could be better than for the second edition of the symposium that will be held at the campus of the Universidad Central de Venezuela, Designed by the Architect Carlos Raúl Villanueva and nominated as a World Heritage Site by Unesco, as being an unique sample of the best of Architecture, Urbanism, and modern art of the 20th century.
